Investigations

Overview

The Investigations team is comprised of five detectives and is supervised by a lieutenant. Detectives are assigned to follow-up on cases that are first investigated by patrol officers in addition to more complex cases that they initiate or receive.  Typical cases handled by detectives include robberies, burglaries, sexual assaults, and financial crimes.

Detectives receive specialized training such as photography, drug investigation, field interview and interrogation, computer crime investigation, sex offender investigation, automobile theft investigation, financial crime investigation, and electronic surveillance techniques.

Unlike the movies and television, cases are not solved in an hour and don't depend on high tech evidence collection. Most cases closed by detectives involve interviews with individuals who are willing to provide information to help solve crimes.
