Fitchrona Road and Nesbitt Road Intersection
The City of Fitchburg is planning to improve the Nesbitt Road and Fitchrona Road intersection.
The Nesbitt Road and Fitchrona Road intersection is currently controlled with a four-way stop. Over the past several years, traffic volumes have steadily increased and the intersection now experiences significant delays and long lines of traffic during peak traffic hours. The City will evaluate existing traffic operations at the intersection and recommend improvements to address current and future traffic volumes.
Future Project Activities
The project is currently in the early stages of alternatives development. Traffic signal and roundabout alternatives are being considered. Some alternatives may include changes to the roadway alignment. Alternatives will be evaluated to determine which one best reduces traffic congestion while minimizing construction cost and impacts to adjacent properties. Additional considerations include constructability and public input.
A public open house is scheduled for March 27th from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Fitchburg City Hall. The meeting will include exhibits and handouts of preliminary alternatives. Additional meeting details and materials will be made available on this website once available.
Consideration of alternatives will be discussed at the Traffic and Transportation Committee meeting on April 5th from 6:30-7:30 at Fitchburg City Hall. The meeting will include the exhibits and handouts of preliminary alternatives. A recommendation of an alternative is anticipated by the Committee.
Consideration of alternatives will be discussed at the Board of Public Works on April 9th from 5:30-6:30 at Fitchburg City Hall. The meeting will include the exhibits and handouts of preliminary alternatives. A recommendation of an alternative is anticipated by the Board.
The City Council will be selecting an alternative to proceed to final design on April 10th from 7:30+ at the Fitchburg City Hall. The Council will be basing their decision on public input, property owner input, and committee/board input and recommendations. Staff will then authorize the design consultant to prepare documents for the selected alternative to complete construction in 2019.
Design of the chosen intersection improvement alternative will be completed this summer. Construction is anticipated in the summer of 2019.
