Internship Program Details

Intern Expectations
Must maintain 3.0 grade point average in core Fire Protection Technician classes, and a 2.5 overall grade point average as a full-time student, which consists of a credit load of at least 12 credits per semester.

Must be able to meet all physical requirements as specified by the Fitchburg Fire Department, as well as complete station duties, truck inspections, and dispatch duties.

Intern Work Schedule
Interns are required to work on a rotating schedule of once every third day.
Monday - Friday shifts begin at 17:00 hours and end at 07:00 hours the following morning.  Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday shifts begin at 07:00 and end at 07:00 the following morning.

Intern Provisions
  • A bed to be used while on and off duty.
  • Storage area for personal articles and clothing.
  • Firefighting turnout gear.
  • Stipend of $150.00 per biweekly pay period
