Members of the Fitchburg Police and Fire Departments, Verona Police and Fire Departments, Fitch-Rona EMS and the Verona Area School District, along with area mutual-aid partners, will be participating in a full-scale exercise (practice scenario), based on an active assailant scenario, at Savanna Oaks Middle School, located at 5890 Lacy Road in Fitchburg, on the following date and time:
Date: August 19, 2014
Start Time: 8:35 a.m.
Estimated End Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
During the duration of this exercise, numerous emergency response vehicles will be parked in, or moving around, the area between Fitchburg Firehouse #1 (5791 Lacy Road) and Savannah Oaks Middle School (5890 Lacy Road).
Personnel will do everything possible to minimize the impact on morning commuters. However, if you are able to avoid Lacy Road between South Seminole Highway and Osmundsen Road from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., it would be greatly appreciated.
We respect the public’s interest in learning more about how our departments are working together in order to ensure the safety of the community, but the safety of the exercise participants and all community residents is of the utmost importance. The entire Savanna Oaks and Stoner Prairie campus will be included as part of this exercise and will therefore be off-limits to anyone who is not an authorized participant.
We apologize for any inconvenience created by this exercise and ask for your understanding and patience while we prepare and conduct this valuable training event.
Media will have limited access to the exercise/school grounds from 10AM – 11AM. Media should contact Fitchburg Police Sergeant Ryan Jesberger (ryan.jesberger@fitchburgwi.gov or 608-270-4315) for more information and to request credentials.
Please contact City of Fitchburg Police Department Sergeant Ryan Jesberger with any questions, comments, or concerns at ryan.jesberger@fitchburgwi.gov or 608-270-4315.
