Due to the heavy rain and the resulting flash flooding Monday evening, Fitchrona Road is closed from Lacy Road to Nesbitt Road. Water levels over Fitchrona Road are dangerously high, making it impassable to all traffic. The closure will remain in effect for Tuesday morning and will likely remain in place throughout Tuesday and possibly beyond. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. Residents of the Elan Apartments,at the corner of Lacy Road and Fitchrona Road, are able to access the complex from Fitchrona Road.
The area has been marked with barricades and road closed signs. While portions of the closed area may appear passable and it may be tempting to move the barricades aside, the barricades are in place to ensure everyone's safety. Do not move or drive around barricades to jeopardize your safety or the safety of others. Several vehicles were stuck in the water this evening and likely sustained significant damage as a result of driving through the high water.
Additional areas of flash flooding have impacted traffic in Fitchburg this evening. We ask motorists to stay alert for high water and/or road closed signage. If the pavement is not visible due to high water in any location, motorists are urged to turn around and seek an alternate route. We ask all motorists to plan ahead for their destinations and familiarize themselves with alternate routes of travel in the event of a closure.
