Fitchburg, WI. September 11, 2018-
Fitchburg Access Community Television- FACTv is offering new opportunities for
businesses looking to develop their local marketing strategies through TV
advertising. FACTv has been working for the last two and a
half years in preparation for commercial advertising on their Community Channel
F2. This process has been a big undertaking for a Public, Education,
Government (PEG) station, but necessary to help maintain funding for its station.
FACTv is not funded by taxpayers; rather they receive funding from franchise
fees that are collected from local cable providers - Spectrum, AT&T
U-Verse, and TDS TV. As more and more people have “cut the cord”, FACTv’s
funding has decreased year after year. To counter this decrease, FACTv
has spent the last two and a half years creating a regular TV model which opens
up space to run paid local advertising. While they are
still considered a PEG station, they have thrown out the old model and are
moving towards the local commercial TV model.
“When I took this job, my goal was
to find new funding sources for this operation. It only made sense to create a
model that offers residents the same viewing experience they would have on a
regular local channel”, said Jeremy Crosby, Community Media Services Manager
for FACTv. “The next step is to sell the advertising, but we face some unique
challenges. Because we are considered a PEG station, we are not part of
any rating system nor do we have any way to communicate to our prospective
advertisers how many people are watching our three channels.” Crosby
says he is aware of these challenges and has used other resources like social
media and website analytics to come up with data on viewership and engagement
for FACTv.
FACTv wants to bring local
businesses and residents together through their media platforms. This
will allow FACTv to continue to serve the residents of the City of Fitchburg,
create opportunities for local businesses to target local consumers, and to
give residents a platform to keep up on what is happening in their community
while learning about the great community resources they have all around them.
“We have the talent, the equipment, and the drive to create high quality
programming and advertising for our community.”
