On July 11, 2019, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a Fitchburg police officer observed a stolen vehicle in the area of the Verona Road Frontage and Atticus Way. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled. A Town of Madison officer observed the vehicle after it fled and successfully deployed a tire deflation device. A State Trooper was in the area and located the vehicle again on the Beltline Hwy. One of the front tires came off the rim as the vehicle continued to flee. The vehicle came to a stop under the Beltline Hwy on Park St. All three vehicle occupants then fled on foot.
A Dane County Sheriff’s Office K9 located one of the passengers. The driver and the passenger were taken into custody after a short foot chase. All three occupants were 14 year old males. The driver was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent, Eluding and Resisting an Officer. The two passengers were both taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on charges of OMVWOC-Passenger and Resisting an Officer. The Fitchburg Police Department was assisted by the Dane County Sheriff's Office, University Madison Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Town of Madison Police Department.
