UPDATE TO ORIGINAL RELEASE
Release Date/Time: 5/27/20/11:00 p.m.
Prepared By: Lt. Edward Hartwick
Details:
Personnel from the Fitchburg Police Department are continuing the investigation into a shots fired incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon, around 3:50 p.m. The apartment complex parking area closed down due to the investigation was reopened around 6:30 p.m.
Based on evidence and statements collected to this point, it appears multiple shots were fired at an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Anton Drive. It is believed the vehicle involved was targeted. While the targeted vehicle was fleeing the area it struck several unoccupied parked vehicles in the lot.
Officers searched the area and located several shell casings. Damaged property from this incident appears to be limited to the parked vehicles struck by the targeted vehicle and the targeted vehicle. A short time after the incident, the targeted vehicle was found unoccupied in the City of Madison.
No injuries have been reported from this incident. While any gunfire, especially in an apartment complex parking lot, presents a threat to public safety, there does not appear to be a continued danger to the public related to this incident. Investigators believe this was a targeted shooting and not a random act.
No arrests have been made in this active and open investigation. No further information is available for release at this time.
Officers from the Madison Police Department assisted in the initial response to the scene.
