UPDATE (9/4/20/4:25 p.m.):
Members of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team and Fitchburg Police personnel took the man into protective custody around 3:45 p.m. The male received immediate medical assistance and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
McKee Road was closed from Verona Road to Spoke Drive during the incident for the safety of the man, emergency personnel on scene, and the public. The road was reopened around 4:00 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation. No additional information is available for release.

Incident Details:
Law enforcement personnel remain on the scene of an active incident occurring in the parking lot of 6091 McKee Road. Around 11 a.m. this morning, officers responded to a call of a man in the parking lot of the former New Vision Cinema. The caller reported the man appeared to be under the influence of narcotics or experiencing a mental health crisis. The man was also reportedly causing harm to himself and was armed with a bat and at least one knife.
Responding officers established a perimeter and engaged in a dialogue with the man while maintaining distance. Fitch-Rona EMS responded to the scene and an ambulance remains on standby. Crisis negotiators have been in contact with the man throughout the afternoon.
Additional law enforcement personnel from the City of Verona Police Department and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist and remain on scene.
McKee Road from Verona Road to Spoke Road remains closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
