Incident Details:
Around 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning, personnel from the City of Fitchburg and City of Madison Police Departments converged on a residence in the 2900 block of Turbot Drive in Madison after three teenagers, believed to have been involved in a recent crime spree, were spotted entering the home. After SWAT team personnel from the City of Madison Police Department arrived on scene, two 15-year-old males and a 17-year-old male exited the residence and were taken into custody. A car reported stolen earlier in the day from the Town of Madison was found nearby.
The two 15-year-old boys were suspects in a June 6, 2021 robbery in Fitchburg where a 14-year-old female was struck in the head with a firearm. Detectives from the Fitchburg Police Department, following up on that investigation, went to the area of Turbot Drive Thursday after learning of an early morning incident in the City of Madison in which at least one of their suspects was also involved. The teenagers were seen walking from the car reported stolen from the Town of Madison and they eventually made it into the home on Turbot where one of them resides.
Once the teenagers were taken into custody, personnel from the Fitchburg Police Department conducted a search warrant at the Turbot Drive residence. Evidence related to the June 6 robbery was located along with a 9mm handgun and an air pistol that resembled an actual firearm (pictured below). Numerous pieces of evidence from multiple crimes, including several residential burglaries, were also located.
Investigators from the Fitchburg and Madison Police Departments, along with the City of Middleton and City of Verona Police Departments are working to connect this evidence to multiple crimes, including burglaries, thefts of vehicles, and financial crimes, reported in their jurisdictions.
The two 15-year-olds were transported to the Dane County Juvenile Reception Center for charges related to the armed robbery. Both have previous involvement with the Youth Justice System and one is on electronic monitoring from previous cases. The 17-year-old, Marquan Webb, was transported to the Dane County Jail and booked on charges related to incidents in the City of Madison, including, Robbery, Felony Theft, and Misappropriation of Personal Identifying Materials.
The ongoing trend of stolen vehicles, thefts from vehicles and residential burglaries continue to pose a threat to community safety within Dane County. On a frequent basis, groups of individuals commit multiple property crimes a night, often in multiple jurisdictions. Dane County law enforcement agencies continue to work together to investigate and address this activity, making arrests and referrals when possible and appropriate. Thursday’s incident highlights the high degree of partnership and cooperation of law enforcement agencies to address a significant public safety concern in Dane County.
This investigation serves as another reminder of the importance of the community as our number one partner in crime prevention. Most, if not all, of these property crimes involve unlocked cars, unlocked doors, or open garages. Simple crime prevention measures can have a significant impact in reducing property crime and associated issues.
Community members are encouraged to develop a regular crime prevention routine to include:
- Locking car doors and removing keys and garage door openers from cars parked outside.
- Locking exterior doors and the door from the garage to the home.
- Keeping garage doors closed.
- Keeping keys and other valuables inside.
Community members are encouraged to report suspicious behavior or criminal activity to their local law enforcement agency.
