Fitchburg Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Oregon on Saturday, January 21, 2023 for several charges after attempting to elude officers in his car. Around 5:00 p.m., Fitchburg Officers were investigating a hit and run crash between two vehicles in the 6300 block of Nesbitt Road; there were no injuries sustained. While investigating the crash, the officer on scene observed the offending vehicle drive past the accident location.
The officer followed the suspect car and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. The officer terminated their attempt to stop the car and a pursuit was not initiated. A Dane County Sheriff's Deputy was nearby and observed the suspect vehicle driving towards them. A tire deflation device was deployed and successfully struck the car's tires. The driver stopped driving the disabled car shortly afterwards and then ran into a nearby field, furthering his attempts to flee from officers. The man eventually surrendered to police after the area was surrounded.
The driver was identified as Alexander J. Sandoval, 38, from Oregon, WI. He was arrested and transported to the Dane County Jail on charges of Attempt to Elude Officer, Operating While Intoxicated (4th offense), Operating with a Prohibited Alcohol Concentration (4th offense), Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, and Hit & Run - Occupied Vehicle. There was a heavy police presence in the area of County Highway M and S. Fish Hatchery Road in Fitchburg as a result of this incident while attempting to take Mr. Sandoval into custody.
