Congratulations to Firefighter Craig Meier!

After serving the City of Fitchburg for three years, Friday was a bitter-sweet day for Fitchburg Firefighter Craig Meier and the Fitchburg Fire Department. Firefighter Meier has had one of his lifelong dreams come true; he will begin his career as a full-time firefighter.

When asked about his time with the department Meier had this to say, “I am going to miss Fitchburg and the area; I grew up here. I am especially going to miss the people I had contact with and the conversations that we had on a daily basis at the firehouse.”

Meier continued to say that he had a blast every day that he came into work. Meier particularly appreciated the opportunity to improve someone else’s day, especially when that someone else was a resident who was possibly having his worst day. “That is incredibly gratifying,” he stated.

Craig also stated that he was very impressed with how the fire department became just like another family to him. He always made his family a priority but when it came to the fire department, he said that it was hard to differentiate between family time and the fire department. Meier said, “My wife, Cindy, knew how important this was to me. I missed a lot of things at home with my family because of it, but she completely supported me. “

Through his service he realized how short life is and that we don’t know what the next day will hold. Meier also said that learned a lot about himself and life in general during his tenure.
Craig left us with these three simple messages: “The Fitchburg Fire Department has a great group of people who are serving the community. Never settle for anything other than excellence. You need to dream big, but the real work begins when you get your dream.”

Of the Fitchburg Fire Department, Meier said, “It will always have a special place in my heart.”

Firefighter Meier started working for the fire department in May of 2012 as a paid-on-call firefighter. Throughout his years of service, Meier has been a very dedicated member. He also was recently elected as the president of the Fitchburg Fire Rescue Association. Meier starts his new career on Monday, March 30 as a firefighter with the City of Asheville Fire Department in Asheville, North Carolina.
