After serving the City of Fitchburg for four years, July 31 will be a bitter-sweet day for Fitchburg Firefighter Vaughn Brockel and the Fitchburg Fire Department. Firefighter Brockel has had one of his lifelong dreams come true; he will begin his career as a full-time firefighter.
When asked about his time with the department Brockel had this to say, “I knew that I would be joining the fire department and learning how to do the job. I did not realize, however, how much more I would learn about myself and about becoming an adult.”
Brockel continued to say that he had a blast every day that he came into work. “I had little idea what I would really be getting into at that point in my life. Though, I can say without a doubt that it has been the best years of my life thus far.”
Vaughn also stated that he was very impressed with how the fire department became just like another family to him. “There is no way to describe how thankful I am to the Personnel at the Fitchburg Fire Department, my family. I would not be half the person I am today without them. “
Of the Fitchburg Fire Department, Brockel said, “I will cherish the countless memories and friends I have made during my time. I will miss most the conversation, camaraderie, slugging coffee around the kitchen table, and the adventure of not knowing what will happen next. I am a better person for my time here and I will always consider the members of the FFD family. Thank you for everything.”
Firefighter Brockel started working for the fire department in June 1011 as a Firefighter-Intern. Throughout his years of service, Brockel has been a very dedicated member, and completed Paramedic training through Mercy hospital in Janesville. Brockel starts his new career on Monday, August 3, 2015 as a firefighter with the City of Madison Fire Department, in Madison, WI.
