The City of Fitchburg broke ground today (July 19) on a $6.7 million dollar, 23,941 square foot fire station. The new station is being constructed at 2931 Marketplace Drive and will replace the station that is currently located at 5415 King James Way. The new fire station will house the Emergency Medical Service and fire services. The station will have a state of the art paging system for first responders and will include 7 bunk rooms for full time staff and 2 additional intern bunk rooms. The city has also included some "green" features in the design such as a geothermal heating system and solar hot water.
"The Fitchburg Fire Department is proud of its ability to respond...its readiness. This fire station will provide firefighters with a home in which to hone skills, prepare equipment, and serve the community. The station location was carefully selected in order to provide the most good for the most people. We anticipate that the design of this station will continue to support emergency services for many years to come." says Fitchburg Fire Chief, Joe Pulvermacher.
