On Thursday, September 8th at approximately 4:38 p.m., officers from the Fitchburg Police Department responded to the area of Syene Road and McCoy Road for a traffic crash involving a bicycle and van.
The preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist, a 63 year old female from Madison, was riding east on the Capital City Trail, approaching Syene Road. The driver of the van, a 51 year old male from Madison, was driving northbound on Syene Road from McCoy Road. The crash between the bicyclist and the the van occurred on Syene Road.
Several witnesses stopped at the crash and began rendering aid to the bicyclist. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There was no evidence on-scene to indicate alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team assisted in the investigation. Syene Road was closed from McCoy Road to Post Road until approximately 7:30 p.m..
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
