Madison Gas and Electric Company must install a high-pressure gas main this fall to insure all parts of their service area have adequate natural gas for this winter's heating season. This will require crews to close the Military Ridge Path just south of Sprocket Dr. in Fitchburg (between the bicycle roundabout and the McKee Rd. bridge), beginning this morning (Friday, Nov. 4).
The closure is expected to run through Saturday, but is weather dependent. However, the required detour is *very minor*. There will be two, related closures during this period.
When the main line path is closed, both access ramps will be open. Go up the near access ramp, cross over the path on Sprocket Dr., and go down the other access ramp. See http://fitchburg.wi.us/fitchburg/photo1.jpg
to see the project area and required short detour.
When the south access ramp is closed, the main line path will be open.
To get between Sprocket Dr. and the path, use the north access ramp only, crossing under Sprocket Dr. if necessary. See http://fitchburg.wi.us/fitchburg/photo2.jpg.
We apologize for the short notice. The City of Fitchburg and MG&E are working together to install this critical gas main with a minimum inconvenience to Military Ridge Path users, and we thank you for your patience.
