Identity theft occurs when someone steals your personal information without your permission and uses it if for a fraudulent purpose.

If you have become the victim of identify theft you may contact the Department to make a report. A police report will assist you when dealing with financial institutions. You should also file a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection as well as the Federal Trade Commision (FTC).
