Career Planning Resources

If you're just beginning your job search, consider these resources first.  Assess yourself, learn about career options, and prepare.

  • Career Onestop
    Career Onestop is a federally sponsored website with a host of tools to help you plan your next career, or plan for a new job.  Resources on the site include career exploration, salary information, skills assessment, resume and interview skills and tips, and much more.
  • Job Center of Wisconsin
    This site offers planning tools for those searching for a job such as a self-assessment tools, job profile match, and resources for veterans.  It also includes job postings for all counties in Wisconsin.
  • Learning Express Library
    The Learning Express Library is offered at the library and at home with the use of your library card.  The website features web courses focused on resume writing, interviewing, social networking, and also includes many exam preparation courses.  Users can create a free personal account to track their learning.

Local Assistance

Searching for a job can be overwhelming.  Help is available through the library, and through other community organizations.

  • Book a Librarian
    If you could use help learning how to search for jobs online, or you need some guidance on using Word, you can ask for time with a librarian who can help get you started.  Call (608) 729-1763 or email library.reference@fitchburgwi.gov.
  • Classes and Workshops
    The Fitchburg library periodically offers classes or workshops geared toward job seekers.  Check our calendar of events or call us for more information.
  • UW Madison
    The university has an Adult Career and Special Student Services advisor that can meet with you for individual help and guidance on career planning.  Visit the UW Madison Continuing Studies Community Outreach page for details and contact information.
  • Dane County Job Center
    Workshops are offered on a wide range of topics of interest to job seekers.  Dane County Job Center also offers individual assistance to job seekers.
