Fish Hatchery Road Reconstruction (C)
The reconstruction of Fish Hatchery Road from Brendan Avenue to the Madison Beltline will be completed during 2020 and 2021. The 2020 construction will include the area from Traceway Drive to the Madison Beltline.
During this time, new pavement, utilities, lighting, traffic signals, and off road bike and pedestrian enhancements will be completed.
One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained throughout construction. Driveways to businesses will remain open or alternate access provided when under construction. Traffic will be shifted onto the current southbound lanes while the northbound lanes are being constructed. Around mid-summer, traffic will be moved over to the new pavement while the southbound lanes are being reconstructed. All construction north of Traceway Drive is expected to be completed by October 30, 2020.

The construction of North Fish Hatchery Road is the culmination of over five years of project development. The nearly $29.5 million construction is jointly financed by the City of Fitchburg, TIF, Dane County and the City of Madison. This legacy project creates the catalyst for economic growth providing enhanced transportation along this corridor within the City of Fitchburg.

The construction will be completed over a period of two years, with the area north of the Nine Springs Creek (a little south of Traceway Drive) being completed in 2020 and the area south of Traceway Drive to be completed in 2021 (see Maps section for overviews of the project).
One lane of traffic will be open in each direction throughout the construction of the project. Traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction, with turn lanes and bus stops provided along the project. Some turning movements will be restricted for limited periods throughout construction. The City will make every effort to inform the public and stakeholders of anticipated changes and impacts as soon as they become available. Communication will be provided through the local media television, radio, social media, and construction apps. Changeable message signs will appear in advance to warn of changes to come. Driveway access will be maintained throughout construction, however temporary inconveniences will occur during utility and road construction. These will be communicated to the public and businesses in advance of the change so businesses may communicate to their customers.
