Prior to entering the court room for your initial appearance, you will be asked how you plan to plea. Below are your choices for making a plea:
Guilty: If you plea guilty, you are admitting that you violated the law and a sentence will be imposed. The sentence may include a fine, loss of driver's license or community service.
No Contest: if you plea no contest, you are not admitting your guilt, however, the court will find you guilty. This plea and finding cannot be used against you in order civil proceeding for the purpose of liability. A sentence will be imposed upon a plea of no contest. The sentence may include a fine, loss of driver's license or community service.
Not Guilty: If you plea not guilty, you will be scheduled for a pretrial conference with the City Attorney at a later date. You will be notified by mail of your next court date. You will be able to discuss your case and determine whether the matter should go to trial or be resolved by a plea agreement.
* Please submit the the court in writing if you want to enter a plea of Not Guilty. You do not need to appear at your initial appearance if you submit a written plea of Not Guilty prior to your scheduled court date. *
