Fitchburg demographics show that our residents are young, highly educated and diverse. Our population growth was twenty four percent from from 2000 to 2010 census compared to Dane County of fourteen percent. The City of Fitchburg is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) consisting of 568,593 residents.  Our municipal boundaries stretch 35 square miles.  Fitchburg incorporated into a City in 1983, we are considered to be in our "teenage" years when it comes to growth and development.  As we move into the future, we continue to embrace our past history as a farming community by respecting the environment by sustainable, Eco-friendly and controlled development as defined in our Comprehensive Plan and zoning ordinance.
