Fire Code
The provisions of this division are intended to provide for the City of Fitchburg rules and regulations to improve public safety by promoting the control of fire hazards; regulating the installation, use and maintenance of equipment; regulating the use of structures, premises and open areas; providing for the abatement of fire hazards; establishing the responsibilities and procedures for code enforcement and setting forth the standards for compliance with and achievement of objectives.
This Division has four main sub-divisions:
Throughout the year, the Fire Prevention Division provides plan review and inspection services for a variety of special events such as; carnivals, fairs and festivals, fireworks, haunted houses, etc. For more information please contact a Firefighter/Inspector.

- Inspection (Code Enforcement)
- Fire Investigation (Fire Cause Determination)
- Public Education (Fire and Life Safety)
- New construction
- Remodeling
- Plan review and acceptance testing
- Buying / selling apartment buildings
- Fire protection systems
- Smoke detector ordinance
- Outside fires
- Carbon monoxide alarm / detector requirements
- Urban Service Area: Urban areas that are supplied with city water, Fire Hydrants, sewer and other urban services. Fitchburg is given an ISO Class 3 Rating.
- Rural Service Area "within 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station": Rural areas that are not supplied with city water, Fire Hydrants, Sewer and other urban services and are with in 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station. Fitchburg is given an ISO Class 7 Rating.
- Rural Service Area "beyond 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station": Rural areas that are not supplied with city water, Fire Hydrants, Sewer and other urban services and are beyond 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station. Fitchburg is given an ISO Class 10 Rating.
