On November 17, 2018, at approximately 11:32 p.m., a Fitchburg Police Officer observed a stolen vehicle driving in the Allied Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood near Jenewein Road. After attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle immediately fled at a high rate of speed. The driver was unable to maintain control of the car as it approached a curve and subsequently drove across a private lawn before striking an unoccupied residence.
The driver, a 16 year old male, attempted to flee from the car after the crash but was quickly apprehended. The passengers, a 14 year old male and a 14 year old female, both sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. The residence was still in the process of being built and suffered serious structural damage.
The driver will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for charges including Operating a Motor Vehicle without Consent, Eluding, and Resisting/Obstructing an Officer; other charges are likely pending further investigation. The passengers, who have both been arrested multiple times in the past for their involvement with stolen cars, will also be referred with charges of being passengers in the stolen car.
The Madison Police Department, Fitchburg Fire Department, Madison Fire Department, and Fitchrona EMS all assisted with this incident.
