[ARCHIVED] Prescribed Burn at McKee Farms Park

Pending favorable weather conditions for TODAY, Wednesday, April 24th, Good Oak Ecological Services will be conducting a prescribed burn at McKee Farms Park.

Good Oak Ecological Services has many years of experience conducting prescribed burns and have notified the Fitchburg Fire Department of the burn. It is not necessary to call emergency dispatchers during the prescribed burn.

Controlled fire is beneficial to native wildflowers and grasses by burning off accumulated litter and returning nutrients to the soil. Burns also reduce invasive brush and help to control noxious weeds. In turn, a healthy plant community provides better habitat for birds, beneficial insects and other wildlife.
