Property Crime Update

8/20/21

Since August 17, we have investigated a number of property crimes across the city including eight residential burglaries (in which three vehicles were stolen) and two stolen vehicles.

Incidents have occurred on:
•Leo Mary Street
•Cornelius Street
•Fox Sedge Lane
•Whispering Pines Way
•No Oaks Ridge
•Chesapeake Drive
•Persimmon Drive
•Argus Lane
•Barbara Drive

Common elements in these late night and early morning incidents include unlocked or unsecured doors, open garage doors, and/or keys/garage door openers left in unlocked vehicles.

While officers are focusing on patrolling residential neighborhoods, looking for open garage doors to prevent and deter crime, we need your help.

If you don't already have a nightly crime prevention routine, please consider adopting these practices each night:

•Ensure openers, keys, and fobs have been removed from vehicles parked outside and that they are locked
•Verify your garage door is closed
•Remove keys and fobs from cars parked in the garage
•Lock the door from your garage into your home
•Ensure exterior doors are locked
•Utilize motion-detecting lights or leave exterior lights on, especially near doors

Entire neighborhoods can prevent property crime when all residents actively participate in crime prevention by securing their own homes, looking out for neighbors, and reporting suspicious activity immediately.
